A warm welcome to our latest member Cleckheaton & District Golf Club.
It is one of the most accessible golf courses in West Yorkshire as it enjoys an enviable location right next to the M62 motorway and attracts, golfers from all over Yorkshire, as well as from across the Pennines.
Founded in 1900 and designed by world famous golf architect Dr. Alister MacKenzie, the par 70 parkland course which stretches just over 6,000 yards was one of the Good Doctor’s first projects in his home county of West Yorkshire and bears all the hallmarks of his signature designs. It is a great example of MacKenzie’s ability to seamlessly blend his design features into the natural beauty of his sites, while simultaneously providing a strong and interesting test for scratch players and a fun and playable course for average players.
The signature fifth hole (pictured) from an elevated tee over a brook to an angled green is thought to have been MacKenzie's inspiration for the famous 12th hole at Augusta National, and has been voted one of the best par 3’s in Yorkshire by users of the GolfNow tee-time booking platform.
This is a forward -thinking club as well demonstrated in the Virtual Golf Centre which was made possible through the vision of a group of members who helped finance the project back in 2017, and has made play and practice available to members and visitors alike year-round and whatever the weather.
There are two rooms in the Virtual Golf Centre, one of which includes a TruFlight2 simulator installed in January 2021, and which sits next to Professional Lee Shepherd's state of the art teaching and fitting studio, Give it a try...you won't be disappointed!.
