Cream of English amateur golf gathers in Yorkshire

The cream of English amateur golf has gathered in Yorkshire for six days of intense competition at Headingley Golf Club and Moortown Golf Club,  where Jack Cope and Emily Price will defend their titles as the 2021 English Amateur Championships on Tuesday 27th July 2021.

England Golf is once again jointly staging the men’s and women’s championships following the success of last year when the format was tried for the first time at Woodhall Spa.

On that occasion, Gloucestershire’s Cope claimed the men’s crown while Ludlow's Price prevailed in the women’s final.

Both players will hope to hang onto their titles in the face of stiff competition with 204 men and 84 women hoping to make their own little bit of history.

The first two days comprises of stroke play on both host courses with the top 64 men and 32 women progressing to the match play stages. All the match play ties, including Sunday’s 36-hole finals, will take place at Moortown.

Both titles remain highly coveted in the world of amateur golf and will be played over courses designed by legendary Yorkshire born golf course architect Dr Alister MacKenzie.

The English Men’s Amateur Championship has been held since 1925 with past winners including Sir Nick Faldo, Sir Michael Bonallack, Paul Casey, Tommy Fleetwood and  Rotherham's Danny Willett.

The English Women’s Amateur Championship was first contested in 1954 and has been won in recent times by players who have gone on to enjoy careers on the LET such as Felicity Johnson and Bronte Law.

England Golf is delighted to be teaming up with ContentLIVE to bring viewers live coverage of the final three days which will be  streamed live via England Golf’s official YouTube channel

Furthermore,  Young Ambassadors – brought together by England Golf and the Golf Foundation - will also be staging an Instagram takeover for the weekend’s play and giving their own unique take on the final stages of both championships.

Tee times and live scoring from the English Amateur Championship can be found on the England Golf website and social platforms.
