Robbie Fowler joins the race to Augusta

Former Leeds United and England striker Robbie Fowler will be vying to win a trip to the 2022 Masters when he tees it up  in the inaugural MacKenzie Challenge at Horsforth Golf Club next month, and there is still time to enter the event which will be played on July 9.

Fowler , who was capped 26 times by England and was in the squads for Euro 96 and 2000, is a keen golfer and was one of the many celebrities who played in the Pro-Am at the Ian Woosnam Senior Invitational at Ilkley Golf Club last year. The event will return there this coming September in an extended two day format following the success of the tournament which was the first major professional event in the county since 1992.

Welcome To Yorkshire will support the better ball pairs  event as part of their new initiative to attract more golfers to the biggest golfing county in the country with over 180 courses ranging from stunning clifftop layouts to Ryder Cup courses. Yorkshire Cancer Research will also receive a donation from the event which is being organised by SGH Sporting events , of Leeds.

The first prize for the winning pair-which is being donated by SGH- includes flights, four nights accommodation, a hire car, two rounds of golf and tickets to the last day of the Masters at Augusta National which, like Horsforth Golf Club ,was designed by Yorkshire born course architect Dr Alister MacKenzie.

The entry fee is £95 per player and includes coffee and a bacon sandwich on arrival and on course refreshments. There's also the chance to win £5,000 for a hole-in-one and prizes will also go to the runners up and third placed teams.

There is still time to enter at: https://themackenzietrail.com/

Entrants must be members of a golf club or have an active WHS handicap to win a prize.
