About English Amateur Championships - Men's & Ladies

Welcome to Yorkshire!

We are host to some truly spectacular, world-class golf courses. Both Moortown and Headingley Golf Clubs, situated in Leeds, have deserved reputations as two of the country's finest championship Golf courses. Surrounded by rural settings, they have wonderful views and boast many memorable holes which make full use of the varied and dramatic terrain.

But Yorkshire has a lot more to offer you than golf. We have taken the time to curate some of our favourite places to eat, stay and do, in the region.

Places to Stay

The Queens Hotel

Proudly positioned in the heart of City Square, the stunning Queens Hotel has long stood as Leeds's most famous landmark hotel. It was built in 1937 and has recently benefitted from a £10.5m refurbishment. The Queens is a hotel proud of both its Art Deco heritage and 4* modern luxury. Lately, it launched QClub, situated on the 8th floor. This exclusive club offers 18 all-new bedrooms and suites, serving complimentary drinks and breakfast along with a host of other first-class business services as well as a 15m long terrace with unrivalled views of Leeds's skyline. It is 'Life at The Top' and no other hotel in the city offers such luxury.

Wood Hall Hotel, Wetherby

Originally built as a country escape for the Scott family, Wood Hall Hotel & Spa in Wetherby remains a tranquil country house hotel with a 2 AA Rosette restaurant and a small health club and Spa. From the moment you arrive, this country house hotel is yours to enjoy. Step into the drawing-room and flick through the papers, kick off your shoes and curl up with a book, or indulge in their signature afternoon tea.

Rudding Park Hotel

Rudding Park is one of the most beautiful hotels in Yorkshire. It was voted Independent Hotel of the Year 2019 and Best Hotel in England by Visit England 2018. It features a range of bedrooms and suites, a destination spa, Clocktower Restaurant, 3 AA Rosette Horto Restaurant, Rudding Park Kitchen Garden, a resident’s gym, private cinema and golf course. The Spa in itself is a reason to visit, even if you do not stay here. Spread over three floors, it includes an indoor pool, juniper log sauna, bucket shower, mud rasul and both nail and beauty salon and a hairdressing salon. The UK's first rooftop spa and garden are a social space to enjoy the extensive range of hydrotherapy and thermal experiences with views over the mature gardens.

Places to Eat

The Man Behind the Curtain

For a really special culinary experience, then visit Michelin Star restaurant, The Man Behind The Curtain. It truly takes its Wizard of Oz-inspired name to heart, with an 11-course yellow brick road of a tasting menu that features everything from pork rinds to oysters.

If you desire something more traditional from your menu, then try Crafthouse. It is located on the top floor of the Trinity Shopping Centre and provides panoramic views across Leeds City Centre. They offer regularly changing seasonal British food, locally sourced from across the region. You could choose from the Taittinger Afternoon Tea, their 7-course tasting menu or select your own choice from the A La Carte menu. We would particularly recommend the sole with lobster mousse and confit potatoes.

Whether you’re after high street treats or boutique independent retailers, Leeds has everything you could possibly need.

Leeds Trinity

Trinity Leeds is the city’s newest and biggest shopping and leisure destination with over 120 shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Housed under a giant iconic glass roof and covering 3-floors, you can shop late at night until 8 pm from Monday – Saturday and then go on to enjoy dinner and a drink at over 20 superb bars and restaurants.

The Corn Exchange

If you want one-off fashion pieces, vintage delights or quirky gifts, then head to the Corn Exchange. The beautiful Grade I listed building is home to a wide range of independent retailers and tasty eateries. They also regularly host vintage markets and record fairs.

Leeds is home to four outstanding theatres and the award-winning First Direct Arena. It is also one of the only cities outside London to boast an Opera House and Ballet company; Opera North and Northern Ballet. The Leeds Playhouse has recently been refurbished and always puts on a good night out.
