About the Club

Founded in 1900 and designed by world famous golf architect Dr. Alister MacKenzie, Cleckheaton Golf Club enjoys an enviable location right next to the M62 motorway, making it easily accessible to golfers from Yorkshire and Lancashire, or even further afield.

The par 70 parkland course, which stretches just over 6,000 yards, was one of the Good Doctor’s first projects in his home county of West Yorkshire and bears all the hallmarks of his signature designs. It is a great example of MacKenzie’s ability to seamlessly blend his design features into the natural beauty of his sites, whilst simultaneously providing a strong and interesting test for scratch players and a fun and playable course for average players.

Firm and fast greens add to the experience and the signature fifth hole, from an elevated tee over a brook to an angled green, has been voted one of the best par 3’s in Yorkshire by users of the GOLFNOW tee-time booking platform.

Another memorable hole is the 16th, a true risk and reward hole, where golfers choose how brave they want to be with their drive over a ravine. The wind plays a big part on this hole and a daring tee shot can get close to the green and set up a birdie opportunity.

Cleckheaton Golf Club is a private members’ club with an active membership, friendly clubhouse atmosphere and a strong junior section.

Society golf, corporate days and visiting parties are made particularly welcome. Packages can be tailor made to meet specific requirements, including facilities for reception, lunch, golf, dinner, and evening entertainment to ensure a memorable experience. The in-house catering team has built an enviable reputation for delivering great fare with a great degree of flexibility.

This is a forward-thinking club, as well demonstrated in the Virtual Golf Centre, which was made possible through the vision of a group of members who helped finance the project back in 2017. It has made play and practice available to members and visitors alike all year-round, whatever the weather.

There are two rooms in the Virtual Golf Centre, one of which includes a TruFlight2 simulator, installed in January 2021, which was just one of the upgrades made to provide users with the latest in display technology.

New 4k laser projectors have been installed in both rooms and new impact screens and custom-built timber frame enclosures have enhanced the visuals to the point where it really feels like you are out there on the course.

Next to the simulator room is a teaching and fitting studio, where club professional Lee Shepherd uses the latest technology on hand to teach and fit clubs from top brands.

He believes it is one of the best facilities in the country and his studio features a Flightscope X3 launch monitor with golf ball tracking and three high speed cameras capable of measuring over 50 different swing data parameters giving valuable feedback to both tutor and pupil.

The club stages several Open Days throughout the course of the season, but early booking is advised as they sell out quickly! They also offer a range of membership packages to suit a individual budgets and lifestyles. An array of benefits including discounted drinks and free use of the club lounge for private functions are also included.
